5 Bay Area Pumpkin Patches to Take Your Family for the 2026 Halloween Season
Family Fun in the Great Outdoors
October is here, and that means spooky season all month long. While others head to haunted houses, horror film screenings, or macabre-themed parties, those of us with families have other plans. One great option is spending the day at a pumpkin patch and finding the perfect pumpkin for the season. But with so many to choose from, which one is right for you?
Thankfully, I'm here to help. This isn't a ranking of the best, just recommendations based on location and what they offer for the family. Here are five Bay Area pumpkin patches where your family can spend the day this Halloween season.
Bay Area Pumpkin Patches
Arata's Pumpkin Farm in Half Moon Bay was the go-to pumpkin patch of my childhood, and my family made it a weekend trip every Halloween season. After so many years, I'm happy to see it still going strong, adding new attractions while preserving the experience that has made it a cornerstone of so many childhoods. From pony rides to a petting zoo and more, Arata’s Pumpkin Farm is the ideal day trip for a family during the Halloween Season.
Spina Farms Pumpkin Patch in Morgan Hill has been one of the most popular and talked-about patches, and for good reason. It's less of a pumpkin patch and more of an amusement park that uses its setting to create an unforgettable experience. From a corn maze and hayride to giant dinosaurs and a variety of food vendors, there's no shortage of activities. Admission to the patch is free, and while the attractions will cost you, they won't burn a hole in your wallet. I came here last year with my family, and we had a blast thanks to the dinosaurs and the corn maze.
Queen's Pumpkin Patch is an excellent South Bay alternative for families who don't want to venture far. Located in Saratoga, it offers a day of fun that goes beyond the pumpkin patch. Kids can enjoy a hay ride, petting zoo, or corn maze, to name a few of the attractions. Snacks are also sold on site for when you need a quick bite. What I've enjoyed most about Queen's is how the attractions and setting make you feel like you're out in nature instead of between West San Jose and Saratoga.
Joan's Farm & Pumpkin Patch has been a favorite spot for East Bay families since 1990. Located on a working cattle ranch, the farm opens to families every October for a day of fun. Guests can spend the day pumpkin bowling, enjoying the inflatable attractions, wandering through the maze, or feeding the farm animals. The Snack Shack offers a good selection of food, with BBQ available starting the second weekend of the month. Just a heads-up: Joan's Farm accepts only cash and checks, so come prepared.
Speer Family Farms brings the fun of a pumpkin patch to Alameda Island at the former naval air station. Families can bring their kids for a day of fun on the waterfront, with views of the San Francisco skyline. Besides picking and decorating your pumpkin, there are train rides, bounce houses, and a petting zoo, all included with admission. As a bonus, parking is free, and dogs are welcome.
